1. Libraries

 There are 18 libraries and 29 regional libraries within the city. Please contact the libraries directly for specific information regarding holidays, operating hours, borrowing limits, etc. Information regarding usage, events, new publications and materials, etc. is available online.

 The collections of the Chuo, Matsuhama, Yamanoshita, Ishiyama, Funae, Toyano, Lifelong Learning Center (Crosspal), Sakaiwa, Uchino, Kurosaki, Kameda, Tsukigata, Iwamuro, and Katahigashi libraries can be searched online (by PC and mobile phone). Further, if you obtain a password at one of the above libraries, you can make use of the following services.

How to Apply for a Library Card

 Please submit an application form to the librarian. You will need to present proof of your address. An alien registration card, insurance certificate, driver’s license, etc. will be accepted.

*In the Chuo Library (Honpoto), and Lifelong Learning Center (Crosspal) libraries there is an international corner with lots of materials in foreign languages. Please feel welcome to make use of them. There are a wide range of materials in English, Chinese, Korean and Russian, including books, newspapers, magazines, and picture books.

 A variety of foreign language newspapers are available, including the New York Times, Izvestiia, People’s Daily, Dong-a-Ilbo, and Minju Chosun.

  2. During school breaks the university library is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. It is also closed on the day of the entrance ceremony, the period around New Year’s Eve (Dec.27-Jan.4), the days of the entrance examination, the University Entrance Exam Center’s test days, and days that the library director decides to close it temporarily.

  4. A person may borrow up to two books for 15 days. Use of the library is granted to those over the age of 20 who reside in Niigata Prefecture. When registering, please remember to bring id verifying your name, address, and birth date.
  5. The most convenient bus stop for accessing the library is “Shindai Nakamon”.
